From a young age, Amber was very ambitious. At
the age of 3 years old, she started to participate in dance classes
such as ballet, jazz, and acrobats. She continued on this venture,
joined a competitive dance team, and participated in a national
dance competition in Orlando, Florida by the age of 9. Amber
always loved being active and began playing sports such as softball,
basketball, volleyball and cheerleading. In high school she was
a member of a traveling volleyball team and participated in the
national volleyball competition in San Diego, California, placing
2nd out of eighty-eight teams.
While attending
Princeville High School, Amber was involved in a coop program
that allowed her to take classes from Illinois Central College
and obtain her Nurse’s
Aide certification. After obtaining the certification she began
her career working in healthcare as a C.N.A. at Methodist Family
Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois. After graduating from high
school in May of 2003, Amber attended Illinois Central College
for a year before transferring to Illinois State University,
where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise
Science.
While attending
ISU, Amber
has been involved in many extracurricular activities including
dancing on Illinois State’s JC Divas Dance
Troupe, acting as events coordinator for Cornerstone Christian
Fellowship, and even the more extreme activities such as jumping
with the ISU Skydiving Club and traveling to Australia to do
volunteer work.
Amber started
her career in the exercise science field in the spring of 2006,
when she was a practicum student for the ISU Wellness Program.
After completing this practicum, Amber was asked to stay as
an aerobics instructor. She is currently a Graduate Assistant
in the Wellness department at ISU and hopes to take the knowledge
she has gained into her future career in this field. |
